Mario Kart is undeniably one of the greatest video games of all time as there’s no greater feeling than firing a turtle shell into the back of your mate as he’s just about to cross the finish line and stealing the victory from him – that’s why there are about eight different versions of the game and it’s one of the most successful franchises of all time.

Of course, many of us have often speculated what it would be like to play Mario Kart in real life but none of us thought it would ever really be possible because well, it’s a fantasy game isn’t it? No way you can be boppsing around the course going over squares and doing turbos and firing shit at each other is there?

Well apparently there is because the guys in Mushroom Rally are bring a Mario Kart experience to the UK, with courses popping up in Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, Nottingham, Leeds, London, Sheffield or Newcastle in the near future. I wasn’t really sure how they were gonna accurately portray the game in real life, but here’s a short promo for the events where they attempt to explain this, as well as some information from their website about it:

Have you ever wanted to race against your favourite characters while collecting stars to win amazing prizes? Go Karting with a twist will be headed to a city near you soon!

A unique experience that combines your favourite characters, friends and new friends for a driving experience that will take you back in time.

OK so looking at that, it pretty much just looks like regular go karting but maybe you can rent costumes so you can dress up as Mario Kart characters whilst you do that? I don’t really know what I was expecting as it’s fairly obvious that you can’t fire turtle shells at each or leave banana skins on the track or even have courses that are anything like Rainbow Road or Bowser’s Castle, but it still feels a bit underwhelming considering how excited I got when I first read about it. Maybe it’ll be a fun day out though sure. If you still wanna buy tickets, then click here for more information.
