Ever since we’ve been able to get WiFI on planes, the goalposts have really been changed as to just what you can get up to when you’re flying through the sky at 20,000 feet.

The latest crazy story involves a 27 year old student named JP Thorn who was approached by the pilot of the plane he was on via GRINDR whilst the pilot was supposed to be flying the plane. I mean I get that autopilot probably does quite a lot these days, but even so it’s kinda distressing that the guy in charge of everyone’s life is trying to hook up in the toilets with someone hey?
Here’s the exact message that JP received:
remember when my pilot messaged me on grindr at 30,000 feet in the air pic.twitter.com/0q7QNDX7MV

Yeah still can’t get over that really. Unfortunately for JP though, he didn’t have his phone or WiFi switched on so didn’t actually clock the message until he had landed and he was waiting to get off it. The profile was listed as 90 metres away and featured a picture of the sky from a cockpit as it’s default pic. Not sure how you can get a GRINDR match when you’re not even online and your phone isn’t on, but hey it’s too good a story not to believe it so let’s roll with it.
Following his exit from the plane, JP said he talked to the guy but nothing really came of it:
My reaction was I knew I needed to get off this plane as fast as I can. I’ve had some weird experiences with proximity stuff on Grindr.
He asked me about our flight, how it was on the way, and (the conversation) was really standard.
I said there was no turbulence, then he made a joke about turbulence.
I meet up with people all the time from Grindr.
I think I totally would have met him for coffee.
This guy doesn’t sound like any gay guy I’ve ever met if he wasn’t into the proximity stuff on GRINDR – I thought that was the whole point so horny gay guys could hook up randomly and easily instead of going cruising down in the park late at night? Anyway, yeah it sounds like he totally blew it as the pilot was probably dead up for inducting another member into the mile high company but unfortunately if you’re gonna be frigid that’s how it’s going to go. Hopefully JP manages to find a boyfriend though – good luck.
For more GRINDR, check out when someone set up a GRINDR hook up location in Nigel Farage’s office. Lol.
