Oymyakon is officially the coldest village on Earth. It’s located in the north of Russia and is nicknamed ‘The Pole Of Cold’ because it gets so freezing up there. The temperature in January averages out at -51 and the all time lowest temperature recorded there was -71 in February 2013.

It’s so cold there that glasses are known to freeze to peoples’ faces, batteries run out almost instantly and cars have to remain running during the day unless they’re placed in a heated garage. There’s no mobile phone coverage there either, but even if there was it would be useless because it’s too cold for a mobile phone battery to work.
