Nigel Farage Claims Migrants Are Stealing And Eating Swans From Royal Parks

Nigel Farage was on LBC earlier and was asked to condemn some of Donald Trump’s recent claims; including the link between paracetamol and autism, and claiming illegal migrants from Haiti had been eating domestic pets in Ohio.

On the latter point, the Reform UK leader insisted there was “some truth” to what Trump was saying, and then expanded by claiming similar incidents are occurring in the UK.

Farage said: “If I said to you that Swans were being eaten in royal parks and carps were being taken out of ponds and eaten in this country from people with different cultures. Would you agree that is happening?”

When asked who he believed was doing this, Farage replied: “People who come from countries where it is acceptable to do so.”

Host Nick Ferrari pushed him to clarify if he meant “Romanians and eastern Europeans”, to which Farage responded: “So I believe. I’m not saying that, I am putting it back as an argument.”

Farage condemned for falsely accusing eastern European migrants of eating swans from royal parks | The Independent

I actually looked into this because it sounds like a completely outrageous thing to say, and it turns out there have been at least a couple reported cases in the last 15 years. There have been stories reported by a site called ‘The Noticer‘ and by Turning Point UK, which may not seem like the most unbiased sources, but you’ve also got the BBC (2015) and Standard (2012) reporting on it too.

Recently though? No confirmed reports at all.

A Royal Parks charity spokesperson said: “We’ve not had any incidents reported to us of people killing or eating swans in London’s eight Royal Parks. Our wildlife officers work closely with the Swan Sanctuary to ensure the welfare of the swans across the parks.”

In 2003, Scotland Yard launched an investigation into claims that the Queen’s swans were being stolen by gangs of asylum seekers who cooked and ate them.

However, the Met later said there was no evidence of asylum seekers or people from Eastern Europe being responsible for the reductions in the swan population.

As for footage that has been posted online of migrants appearing to fish from community ponds, it is ‘unclear’ whether they are breaking any fishing rules and no arrests have been made.

We already know that they eat cats and dogs in some countries, so on the bright side, we could at least say that migrants in the UK have swankier, classier tastes. In Royal parks, no less! Probably with napkins and silverware too.

I guess it’s one of those things that people will accept or reject whether the evidence is there or not. There is certainly some footage online that adds credibility to what Farage is saying, whether we like him or not, but the real question is – are these isolated cases, or just how widespread is it?
