The New York pizza rat went viral last year after it was filmed eating a slice of pizza on the floor of a New York subway station, but it now appears that pizza wasn’t enough to satisfy its appetite – it’s now turned on its own.

The recent video shows a rat dragging a fallen buddy down the stairs and across the platform at the Jay Street-Metrotech station. JB Jose who uploaded it had the following to say about it:

A little before midnight on Jan 2, 2016 at Jay St-Metrotech, Pizza Rat emerges from the darkness to retrieve his fallen comrade.

Was it trying to the ‘wake up’ the other? Was it taking it away to eat? Will we ever know?

Jose also spoke about what it was like to be present at the scene:

We didn’t really notice the dead rat on the steps till the other one appeared on the platform.

I started filming cause my gf was deathly frightened (and it seems like the logical thing to do at the time).

Everyone was surprised by that rat till we realized it was actually headed to the other one. At this point, other people were saying ‘gross’ or ‘how sweet’ and started filming.

I stopped filming after it disappeared into the darkness.

Well, I’m not really sure what’s going on in the video to be honest. I mean it seems like he was just taking his buddy’s body back for a funeral or something, I sincerely doubt he was going to eat him or that it’s the same rat as Pizza Rat.

However, I’ve gotta give him props for being able to carry his mate back because I’m sure that must be pretty heavy. And also just in general for being a great dude, providing he isn’t actually going to eat him. Like Jose says though, I doubt we’ll ever know.

These rats should be grateful they’re not from Greenock in Scotland though – otherwise they might run into the legendary Rat Eating Man of Greenock.
