With reality TV informing much of our televisual diet these days, it was only a matter of time before someone stumbled on the motherland and decided to do an Apprentice style competition show about dogs training to be guide dogs.

OK, this isn’t exactly what’s happened just yet with Netflix’s new movie ‘Pick Of The Litter’, but it is kind of similar as the synopsis and trailer both demonstrate:

The show follows a litter of puppies from the moment they’re born and begin their quest to become guide dogs for the blind. Cameras follow these pups through an intense two-year odyssey as they train to become dogs whose ultimate responsibility is to protect their blind partners from harm.

Along the way, these remarkable animals rely on a community of dedicated individuals who train them to do amazing, life-changing things in the service of their human. The stakes are high and not every dog can make the cut. Only the best of the best. The pick of the litter.

Geez, I got a bit emotional just watching that trailer, were you? You can just imagine this as being as entertaining as most reality TV shows, but without the whole cast being full of vacuous assholes and instead populated with loveable doggos just trying to do their best and become rescue dogs. Got hit written all over it when you look at it like that really hasn’t it?

Best thing about Pick Of The Litter is that you don’t even have to wait for it as it’s available right now. And it’s Wednesday so you’re probably not doing anything so you can just whack that on. Perfect.

For more of the same, check out this story about a dog and a 34 year old family secret. Just great.
