Blink 182 have so many side projects that it’s sometimes hard to keep up with them, but I honestly didn’t expect any of them to start any new ones because everything seemed to be going so well now that Matt Skiba was in the band.

Well boy was I wrong because here’s Mark Hoppus with a new project called Simple Creatures that he’s formed with All Time Low’s Alex Gaskarth. You probably think that sounds like they’re going to produce some boring ass sugary pop punk for you considering both other past projects, but the result is actually pretty different.

Here’s what Mark Hoppus had to say about the project as well as the song entitled ‘Drug’:

Drug is always the first song we play people when introducing them to Simple Creatures, so it only makes sense that it’s the first single.

I love the ratty guitar lead mixed with the thumping kick drum. Lyrically, the song is about being destroyed by the things you love.

Well that was way more ‘experimental’ than I thought it would be and was actually kind of cool? Maybe something like Gwen Stefani/Pink crossed with Muse/Interpol/Bloc Party with some rapping thrown in for good measure. I’m pretty into it.

Be interesting to see what happens with it because I heard that Blink 182 were recording new music right now so surely this doesn’t leave much time for these guys to do anything? We’ll see.

For more Mark Hoppus, check out this really terrible Blink 182 performance from just last year. Some things never change.
