They say you should never judge a book by its cover, but 40-year-old Pennsylvania man Jeremy Pauley is making that very difficult after being busted attempting to buy stolen body parts from a mortuary, which he intended to sell on Facebook.

According to Sky News, Pauley arranged to pay a woman $4,000 (£3,382) for the body parts in an effort to sell them on for profit. The remains in question had been donated to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, and had been stolen after they were sent to a mortuary for cremation.

A spokeswoman for the university said:

“We are very respectful of those who donate their bodies, and we are appalled that such a thing could happen.”

In fairness to Pauley, he describes himself as a collector of “oddities”, and sure enough when the police first raided his house they found what they described as older human remains including full skeletons which were legally obtained.

However, when they returned to his house to raid it again following a tip-off, they found the more recent (illegal) purchases including two brains, human skin, a heart, livers, lungs and even a child’s mandible with teeth.

If you look closely, the guy even has two empty stud holes at the top of his skull. May have a couple screws loose?

Jeremy has been charged with abuse of a corpse, receiving stolen property and dealing in proceeds of unlawful activities. As I said at the top of this blog, the wildest part about this is that he looks exactly like the sort of guy who would be buying stolen body parts and selling them on Facebook, and so he’s not done any favours for the extreme body mod crowd with this one. What I want to know is; who on Facebook is in the market for buying human remains? Would their community guidelines even allow such a thing? Guess we’re not going to find that out anytime soon.
