Been a heavy week in the news, so here’s something a little more quirky/light hearted to end your Thursday as a guy over in Japan has decided to run for governor by dressing up as The Joker.

Yuusuke Kawai of the Party to Make All of Chiba a Land of Dreams and Magic is hoping to fill the role as governor for Chiba Prefecture that’s currently being vacated by the retiring Kensaku Morita. You might think that he’s a right wing maniac given how Joker was celebrated by incels and other marginalised members of society, but his policies are actually remarkably wholesome and/or stupid, including building a Tokyo Tower in Chiba, renaming Narita Airport as Disney Sky, making ‘Let It Go’ the prefecture’s theme song, outlawing the word ‘trash’ and replace it with ‘star fragment’ (???) and renaming Makuhari Station as Makuhari Messe Isn’t Here Station.
I’m not sure if that would be enough to get my vote, but it might when you consider that he’s coming up against the head of the People’s Sovereignty Party Masayuki Hiratsuka, who is known for being anti-mask, has dubbed COVID-19 ‘just a cold’ and said that vaccines are dangerous. Kawai has also made this really weird campaign video/music video that’s pretty much him dancing around Chiba and spraying champagne over everyone which is clearly going to be a big influence on how some people choose to use their vote:
Wow. To be honest, that might be enough to sway me into voting for him because it’s so unhinged, although I’m not sure if a guy like that would actually do a good job in a political position of power. Might be funny to see him be given a shot though.
Obviously though, it could also badly backfire, so I feel like as there are other candidates running aside from him and Hiratsuka that one of them will probably go ahead and win the race. Can’t blame the guy for trying something like this though I suppose.
For more of the same, check out this story about Jared Leto trying to stop ‘Joker’ from getting made. What an idiot.
