The man charged over an alleged plot to kidnap Holly Willoughby is literally incapable of going for a brisk walk, let alone kidnapping someone, which I suppose is why he was allegedly hiring someone else to do it for him.

Gavin Plumb, 36, from Harlow, Essex, has been revealed to be an ex-Pizza Hut worker who couldn’t leave his own home because he weighed 35 stone (222kg). He was arrested this week and charged with soliciting to commit murder and incitement to commit kidnap.

The suspect isn’t known to Holly, but he kept a diary about her for some time. MailOnline reports that Plumb worked as a kitchen assistant at Pizza Hut between 2011 and 2012, but eventually had to quit because he was unable to leave his flat, which he revealed in a BBC feature on weight-loss in 2018.

During the feature, Plumb confessed to drinking  an average of 36 pints of coca cola a week, and said he only left his home to take out the communal bins. In fact he told the BBC in 2018 that the last time he had been outside unaided was to his parents’ wedding vow renewal in 2014:

‘My weight has always fluctuated. At my heaviest, I was 35 and a half stone. When the weight started to pile on, that was when my mental health really went down.

It’s a vicious circle. When I’m depressed, I eat – and when I eat, I’m depressed. For a long time, I found it difficult walking around. But getting to the point of not being able to go out, that really crept up on me.

I hate sitting indoors. I hate looking at the same four walls 24/7. I hate being the size I am.

I’m pretty much in pain everywhere. I get chest pains and I’ve just been told it’s because of my weight. I’m scared that if I have something to eat or if I get up and I do too much, that’s it, I’m done.’

Man, that’s no way to live. But then neither is keeping a diary about Holly Willoughby and plotting to kidnap and murder her. I’m sure it’s come as a relief to Holly that this guy has a) been arrested and b) is too fat to move, but of course her London home is still being guarded by police and ITV are providing round-the-clock security for her.

It’s unclear how police became aware of the alleged plot but it is understood digital devices and a mobile phone were seized. Could be that whoever Plumb contacted over assisting in the kidnap of Holly Willoughby grassed him up. Either way, hope he enjoys the prison menu.
