Living nightmare.

A man named Matthew Phelps has been charged with the murder of his wife, Lauren Ashley-Nicole Phelps.

Matthew, 28, told the police he was having a bad dream before waking up to find his wife stabbed to death beside him. He said:

I had a dream and then I turned on the lights and she’s dead on the floor.

His mugshot tells a sinister story, as his face is covered in specks of blood from his 29-year-old wife. He said how he had been suffering from insomnia and had taken more medicine than he should have last Thursday evening.

It was early on Friday morning when Matthew, an evangelical Christian, called the police. In the recording, he said:

There’s blood all over me, and there’s a bloody knife on the bed. I think I did it.

I took more medicine than I should have.

I took Coricidin Cough and Cold because I know it can make you feel good and sometimes I can’t sleep at night.

He was later heard sobbing and saying that his wife didn’t deserve to be killed.

Although he admitted to the murder and it seems like his story could be legit, it’s not looking like he’s going to get off lightly and is being charged with murder. The court case is this week, so we’ll keep you posted with how that turns out.

It’s going to be a tough one because as said, he could very well be telling the truth about the “bad dream” – why else would be call the police as soon as it happened? But then the American judicial system does not go easy on murderers, no matter what the circumstances. If he gets put away with life without parole then that’s two lives ruined by a very unfortunate situation. Either way, RIP to Lauren and thoughts go out to her family.
