The Walking Deer.

We often wonder what would happen during a zombie apocalypse thanks to the plethora of entertainment we consume revolving one, but it looks as though one could be happening right now – at least to the deer population.

News out of the United States is that a new disease is targeting deers over there and leaving them in a zombie like state as their nervous system is targeted, causing them to become increasingly aggressive whilst their body wastes away and the lose co-ordination. Sounds like those walkers for sure doesn’t it?

The good news (kinda) is that these deers won’t stay alive perpetually hunting humans, but Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) will eventually cause them to die after their spinal cords, brains and other tissues waste away. The other good news is that there isn’t any fears that it could be transmitted to humans a la Mad Cow Disease, although a study did find that macaques could get the disease after consuming infected meat. Be careful.

As of January 2019, the disease has managed to affect deer found in 24 different states as you can see by the map above which definitely looks like a zombie infection kind of map. Kinda looks like it’s not long before the entirety of the United States is going to be affected either, with the Centre For Disease Control saying the following:

It is possible that CWD may also occur in other states without strong animal surveillance systems, but that cases haven’t been detected yet.

Once CWD is established in an area, the risk can remain for a long time in the environment. The affected areas are likely to continue to expand.

I mean that doesn’t sound too hot does it? If I was you and I was living in the United States, I would get the hell out of there now. Or at least stock up on shotgun ammo and provisions. You’re gonna need them.
