As per The Telegraph, Kate Winslet has spoken of her relief at discovering her ancestors were impoverished peasants, saying she would have been ‘upset and disgusted’ to have come from wealth. Huh?!

The Titanic actress contacted BBC’s ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ and asked to learn more about her heritage, claiming afterwards she “would have been upset and disgusted if I had come from wealth or royalty”.

She told the Radio Times:

My roots are socialist, working class and, in a funny way, my parents frowned upon the wealthy.

I come from a long line of impoverished people on both sides of my family, which perhaps explains why I’ve tried to instil my parents’ values into my kids.

Congratulations to Kate Winslet! It must feel good to learn that you come from a long line of struggling peasants. I mean, OK, it probably sucked for the ancestors themselves who were dirt poor, working backbreaking jobs at long hours, struggling to feed each other, not being able to afford medical care, and dying young in awful, squalid conditions with no running water. But at least Hollywood A-lister and multi-millionaire Kate Winslet feels good about it!

If only Kate Winslet’s ancestors knew their great, great grandaughter made all this money starring opposite Leo DiCaprio in one of the highest-grossing movies of all time. Bet they would have loved a piece of that cake. It just makes no sense that she herself wouldn’t want to be dirt poor, but she’s apparently virtuous enough to have been upset and disgusted if her ancestors weren’t dirt poor. Just more nonsensical Hollywood celebrity virtue signalling.
