‘Just Stop Oil’ Protesters Throw Soup Over Priceless Van Gogh Painting

‘Just Stop Oil’ protesters have been in the news a lot over the past few weeks as their stunts continue to annoy everyone and just make people hate the cause that they’re trying to promote. No surprises that they’re at it yet again today, deciding to deface a priceless Vincent Van Gogh painting.

The protesters ran into the National Gallery this morning and chucked soup all over Van Gogh’s classic ‘Sunflowers’ painting before doing a little speech and gluing themselves to the wall. Check out footage of the protest below:

What is worth more, art or life?

Is it worth more than food?

More than justice?

Are you more concerned about the protection of a painting, or the protection of our planet and people?

The cost-of-living crisis is part of the cost of oil crisis.

UK families will be forced to choose between heating or eating this winter, as fossil fuel companies reap record profits.

But the cost of oil and gas isn’t limited to our bills.

Somalia is now facing an apocalyptic famine, caused by drought and fuelled by the climate crisis.

Millions are being forced to move and tens of thousands face starvation.

This is the future we choose for ourselves if we push for new oil and gas.

Yeah again I pretty much agree with what they’re saying there and I understand their ‘guerilla’ tactics to try and get people to listen to what they’re saying and try to do something about it, but yet again I think that they’re shooting themselves in the foot by pursuing them as they’re just going to massively annoy everyone. Most of the population already thinks they’re twats so what’s the point of doubling down on these tactics? Even that girl who defaced the Captain Tom monument the other week had her father calling her a dickhead FFS.

Just don’t think that they’re doing themselves any favours with this line of protest, but I suppose we’ll see if it does actually end up achieving anything.  Highly doubt it will but you never know.

For more of the same, check out this oil protester give a remarkably composed interview whilst being carried away by police. Fair play I suppose.
