The Amber Heard/Johnny Depp trial was undoubtedly one of the biggest stories of the year, but it was decidedly strange that Johnny Depp’s only daughter Lily Rose never spoke out about her feelings regarding it any point.

One the eve of the premiere of her new HBO show ‘The Idol’ though, Lily Rose has decided to explain her thinking in an interview with Elle. Here’s what she had to say about it all:

When it’s something that’s so private and so personal that all of a sudden becomes not so personal…I feel really entitled to my secret garden of thoughts.

I also think that I’m not here to answer for anybody, and I feel like for a lot of my career, people have really wanted to define me by the men in my life, whether that’s my family members or my boyfriends, whatever.

And I’m really ready to be defined for the things that I put out there.

I know my childhood didn’t look like everybody’s childhood, and it’s a very particular thing to deal with, but it’s also the only thing that I know.

My parents protected my brother and me from it as much as possible. I’ve just been raised in a manner that has taught me that privacy is something that’s important to protect.

Yeah that makes perfect sense really doesn’t it, although I still think it’s sort of strange that she didn’t vocally support her father on this case considering it involved domestic abuse and if a family member doesn’t back you on that it kinda makes you look guilty. I’m guessing they probably have some beef or something, but I suppose when your dad’s always off partying on coke binges all the time then it’s probably pretty hard to have a fantastic relationship with him. All the best to them both in the future.
