The Jeremy Kyle Show has been a staple of ITV’s schedule for as long as I can remember (2005 actually), so it’s fairly shocking to hear that the show has been suspended by the television network after the death of a guest.

Here’s what the official statement from the broadcaster:

Everyone at ITV and The Jeremy Kyle Show is shocked and saddened at the news of the death of a participant in the show a week after the recording of the episode they featured in and our thoughts are with their family and friends.

ITV will not screen the episode in which they featured.

Given the seriousness of this event, ITV has also decided to suspend both filming and broadcasting of The Jeremy Kyle Show with immediate effect in order to give it time to conduct a review of this episode of the show.

Damn. That does not sound good at all, but I suppose when you think about it it’s kinda surprising that this hasn’t happened sooner considering how badly Jeremy rips into most of the people who appear on the show (assuming this is a suicide as that’s what it sounds like).

This idea has been given even more authority by journalist Carole Cadwalladr, who tweeted the following:

I mean yeah I suppose this doesn’t really surprise me when I think about it, but it’s not like anyone out there (myself included) has really done anything about it or tried to stop it. Sucks that someone had to literally die for everyone to realise that it isn’t a cool television show to watch. Hopefully this might lead to some changes, but given how popular it is I’m not sure it will. We’ll see.
