Idris Elba Is Set To Replace Will Smith As Deadshot In Suicide Squad

There’s no denying that Suicide Squad was a completely and utterly terrible movie – especially considering how much hype there was in the build up to it – but one of the only good things about it was Will Smith’s performance as Deadshot and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. The less said about Jared Leto as The Joker the better.

Despite the film’s commercial success though, Will Smith wasn’t very happy with its critical panning and has decided not to return for the sequel. Writer/director David Ayer has pissed off too – which is probably a good thing considering how utterly atrocious the first movie was and he was mainly responsible for this – and this has led to former Guardians Of The Galaxy mastermind James Gunn stepping into the auteur’s chair. That’s clearly something we can get behind.

What’s even better then this though is the rumour going around that Idris Elba might be replacing Will Smith as Deadshot. This could actually be way better as for all intents and purposes Will Smith did essentially play Will Smith in the first one and didn’t really have the badass criminal vibe to him at all. I think that Elba could definitely pull that off as he’s played an antihero multiple times in his life and he also looks a bit older and grumpier than Will Smith, so the whole ‘I’m getting too old for this’ schtick could probably work really well with him in the role too. Might have to start getting excited about this sequel after all.

For more of the same, check out this Joker and Harley Quinn short fan film that is way better than Suicide Squad. Seriously.
