Greta Thunberg and other prominent activists includingGame of Thrones’ actor Liam Cunningham and French MEP Rima Hassan have been captured by the Israeli military while attempting to deliver aid to Gaza via sea.

Greta and co are aboard the vessel Madleen, which departed from Sicily on June 1, 2025, as part of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition’s initiative to challenge Israel’s naval blockade of Gaza. The ship is carrying essential supplies such as baby formula, medical kits, and clean water systems.

Naturally, Israel has not taken kindly to the mission, claiming it is “media provocation” and insisting that they will handle the entry of humanitarian aid to Palestinians themselves (yeah, right). Here’s what the Israeli Defence Minister Tweeted about the Madleen earlier:

Oh dear.

Thus far, it appears that Greta and everyone else aboard the ship has been unharmed, and the plan is show them all footage of the October 7 massacre and then send them back to their homes. I mean, surely Israel wouldn’t be bold enough to actually bring physical harm onto these activists, right? Not with the whole world watching. Then again, I’m not sure you can put it past them at this point.

Greta Thunberg put out this video from the boat:

The interception of the Madleen is of course illegal in itself and has sparked international criticism, with the Freedom Flotilla Coalition accusing Israel of “international piracy” and “forcibly intercepting” the vessel in international waters. Witnesses reported the use of drones and irritant sprays during the boarding process.

It’s not the first time something like this has happened, either. Back in May, another Gaza-bound ship, the Conscience, was hit by drones in international waters near Malta. Thunberg was due to board that vessel as well but was unable to due to the attack.

Say what you will about Greta Thunberg – we’ve taken the p1ss out of plenty over the years – but there’s no denying the girl has balls of steel. I reckon we can all admire the guts it must take for a teenager with Asperger’s to put herself out there on the world stage and risk her life in order to deliver aid to the starved and oppressed people of Gaza.

Unfortunately, there was no way that Israel was ever going to let this happen.
