Remember there was a time when Matthew McConaughey would only play the romantic lead in rom coms?

Those times are long gone and ever since the double whammy of True Detective and Dallas Buyer’s Clubs, McConaughey has been seen as a versatile and effective Hollywood leading man – and then he does something like this. Clearly eager to get back to his dumbass indie movie roots – hello Dazed And Confused – McConaughey is starring as the titular character  in notorious gonzo filmmaker Harmony Korine’s latest effort ‘The Beach Bum’ alongside Snoop Dogg, Jonah Hill and Zac Efron amongst others.

We’ve known about this movie for a while but the first full trailer has finally been replaced and well, let’s just say it looks about as stupid as it sounds:

I mean that does look pretty stupid doesn’t it, although it does look like it has some semblance of a plot which might be an improvement on some of Korine’s other movies. Of course, it’s probably just gonna be Matthew McConaughey walking around getting into dumb situations with random characters as that tends to be the vibe in Korine’s past movies, but at least we get a coke addicted parrot and a pilot who looks like Bob Marley with a giant spliff right? I guess I’l take that.
