Awful scenes at the Liverpool title parade yesterday as a driver ploughed into crowds lining Water Street and injured 47 people – including a child who was one of four people still trapped under the car when firefighters arrived.

New footage from the incident purports to show what happened exactly before the man decided to floor it into the crowd:

It seems that despite the roads being closed to vehicles with so many pedestrians around, this pr1ck was trying to cut through instead of going the long way round. Understandably, people were not happy about this and let him know it, although I suppose they took it too far by attacking his car.

At that point the man seems to have panicked, and all hell broke loose from there. Obviously that’s no excuse for what he did, but it’s good to have confirmation that it wasn’t a premeditated attack.

A 53-year-old British man was arrested at the scene, though there’s already a bunch of conspiracies flying around about that, with people convinced that there’s no way the glimpse we got of the driver in separate footage shows a man in his fifties:

Well, I suppose it’s hard to tell from that angle. Whoever it was, Merseyside Police had a hell of a time trying to stop Liverpool fans from lynching him right there in the street:

No doubt more details around the incident will be forthcoming today. The good news is that no one was killed, so let’s wish a speedy recovery to everyone who was injured and be thankful things didn’t turn out a whole lot worse.
