Fred Durst and John Travolta – they aren’t exactly two people that you would ever have expected to work together are they? But here they are in a movie that Fred Durst wrote and co-directed named The Fanatic, which is loosely based on an experience Durst had with a fan himself.

The movie stars Travolta as a violent mulleted stalker obsessed with a guy called Hunter Dunbar, played by Idle Hand’s Devon Sawa – what the hell has he been doing for the last 20 years? Anyway, judging by the trailer it doesn’t take too long for things to get completely out of hand after Travolta breaks into Sawa’s house and ties him up to his bed in some kind of BDSM bondage gear:

Eek. OK that looks kinda trashy and hokey and it probably is given who’s involved but the reviews so far have been generally favourable so it looks like it might actually be a fun time.

This idea of it being decent is extrapolated further by Travolta who said the following about working with Durst:

It may be my favorite experience I’ve had. [Fred] was so generous. He’s such an artist and he allowed me to create a character that nobody else would allow. I mean it’s really a wild character and I felt very free to do that.

I mean that’s high praise indeed considering who Travolta has worked with over his career. We’ll judge for ourselves though when the movie is released on August 30th (limited theatres and streaming platforms).

For more of the same, check out Rob Zombie’s new movie. You know that’s gonna be gruesome.
