It was announced a few months ago that MTV (of all people) was developing a TV show based on Scream and most people who actually enjoyed the movie were immediately disappointed because well, MTV hasn’t really ever made a TV show worth watching to put it bluntly. Unless you’re a fan of reality TV shows of course, but then again those aren’t really worth watching are they?
Now, the Scream TV show is due to premiere next Tuesday on MTV over in the States and they’ve released the first eight minutes of it to try and hype people up for it. As you might expect, this involves Ghostface stalking someone and eventually killing them, but it’s kind of refreshing to see the show updating the Scream mantra by using YouTube, Siri and text messaging in this scene rather than the traditional format of the phone call.
To be honest, it’s nowhere near as bad as I thought – aside from some dodgy music and Ghostface’s new look – and there was a fair bit of tension and fear as to whether this girl was going to get out of it or not. Or more specifically how she was going to die and when I suppose, and whether there were going to be any big jumps along the way.
Still, it’s probably not enough to get me to actually watch the show – if I want to get truly terrified I think I would be better off playing this video game instead.
