The world is in mourning today following the death of basketball legend Kobe Bryant and the tributes are flowing in with perhaps this video of his final NBA appearance being one of the best ones out there.

Bryant was bowing out after 20 years and played 42 minutes of his final game for the Lakers against the Utah Jazz. The Lakers were losing by 15 points, but Kobe put in an absolutely phenomenal performance to drag them back for the win, posting two three pointers in the last minute to leave the result as an improbable 101-96.

He actually scored 60 points in the game, making it his fifth highest scoring game of all time and becoming the oldest player to score 60 points in an NBA game. A truly remarkable achievement from a remarkable athlete – check out the footage below:

I mean I was tense just watching that – what an awesome way to end your career. It’s a shame that the game ultimately didn’t mean anything as it was the Lakers’ worst ever season as a franchise, but even so people will be talking about that performance for years to come and deservedly so. RIP to one of the greats.

For more of the same, check out LeBron’s reaction to hearing about Kobe’s death. Really sad.
