Most of us laughed off the idea of a global epidemic of Coronavirus when people first started talking about it, but as it continues to spread those hearty laughs are turning to wry smiles, especially with this latest news.

Experts have been quoted as saying that it could possibly kill 45 million people and affect 60% of the global population, as they believe that every person that’s affected currently will go on to infect at least 2.5 more people judging by the current figures if it is not controlled effectively. The World Health Organisation today urged governments to be as aggressive as possible in their efforts to curtail its spread before it really does become a major problem.

Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the following:

It will be another 18 months until a vaccine is ready.

To be honest, a virus is more powerful in creating political, social and economic upheaval than any terrorist attack. It’s the worst enemy you can imagine.

As 99% of cases are still in China, it remains very much an emergency for that country, but one that holds a very grave threat for the rest of the world.

I mean all of what he’s saying there does make sense, but I still think it’s a bit over the top and scaremongering that he’s come out with those figures.  I suppose it might actually cause some countries to pull their fingers out and treat it like a serious issue, but other than that it might just send people into a panic.

Let’s just hope people take it seriously and it’s over fairly soon. If not, then let’s hope more KFC restaurants don’t close down as a result of it at least. That’s really stressing me out.
