Nowadays when you ask someone who their favourite stand-up comedian is, they’ll mention Jimmy Carr, Aziz Ansari, Ricky Gervais, Amy Schumer (just kidding) etc.

All decent choices, but 80’s and 90’s kids will probably tell you that the true GOAT of stand-up comedy is Eddie Murphy, and according to TMZ (and numerous other outlets) he’s about to make a return to stage after Netflix offered him $70 million to film some specials for them.

$70 million might sound like an obscene amount of cash (I mean it is) but it’s in line with that Netflix have paid other A-list comedians for their Netflix specials. Dave Chappelle got $60 million to do three of Netflix specials, Chis Rock got $40 million for two of them, and Ellen DeGeneres made $20 million off her solo special.

If Eddie Murphy’s new material is anything like his stand up classics ‘RAW’ and ‘Delirious’, we’re in for a treat.
