DOOMSDAY DISASTER DOMES
Panic over, the solution has been found to our fears about natural disasters and global warming: The Ark Hotel. This ‘self-contained haven’ has been designed to cope with earthquakes and rising sea levels. Every facet of a self-sustaining building has been covered in this incredible piece of architecture. In attempts to save our planet, this giant biosphere has solar panels and a rainwater collection system which provides the hotel with power and water. Air quality and food is taken care of in the greenhouse environment which provides lush vegetation. Oh and natural light is also infiltrated into the rooms; thus saving on electricity costs.
Architect Alexander Remizov, of the Russian Company Remistudio, said: “For architecture there are two major concerns. ‘The first is maintenance of security and precautions against extreme environmental conditions and climate changes. The second one is protection of natural environment from human activities. The Ark is an attempt to answer the challenges of our time.Provision is made for an independent life support system. All the plants are chosen according to compatibility, illumination and efficiency of oxygen producing, and with the aim of creating an attractive and comfort space. Through the transparent roof there is enough light for plants and for illuminating the inner rooms.”
It is uncertain where these Ark hotels will be built, but they better get a move-on if we are to escape all the freaky weather that has been hitting the rest of the world recently.
