One of the key components of Donald Trump’s political campaign was that he was going to build a wall across the entirety of the Mexican border and make Mexico pay for it.
When Trump was bizarrely voted into power, he did slightly backtrack on this statement saying that it might be more of a fence than a wall, but he still seemed fairly committed to its construction. There wasn’t really any word on whether or not Mexico would still be paying for it though, and now it turns out that Trump is probably going to ask Congress to fund it. Predictable.
Most of the party are refusing to comment on the situation, but here’s what representative Steve Scalise said about the situation:
We want President Trump to have all the tools he needs to build the wall. We’re in talks with him on the details of it as they’re still putting together their team.
We still got a few months before there’s another funding bill that’s going to move. We’re going to work with him to make sure we can get it done.
We want to build a wall. He wants to build a wall.
Yeah he doesn’t sound too keen on all that though does he? Sounds like it might be going down like that though and Trump might ask for funding for it on the upcoming spending bill that needs to be voted on by April 28th.
It’s probably worth mentioning at this point that any construction on the length of the Mexican border is going to cost billions of dollars and could potentially shut down the government. Of course, the alternative is going to war with Mexico to make them fund it or breaking his campaign promises. Tough times at the start of Trump’s reign.
