I don’t know how you’re planning on sorting out that New Year hangover but if you’re thinking about going and getting a Pret A Manger salad you’re a better man/woman than me. At the same time you might wanna explore other options because you could be getting an extra helping of frog in your next Pret salad, if a woman’s recent experience in New York is anything to go by.

Yesterday, Wall Street Journal Digital Features Editor Kathryn Lurie (couldn’t have picked a worse person for this to happen to really could they?) Instagrammed a photo of a dead frog that she said a colleague had found in her Albacore Tuna Nicoise Salad. Gross. Although if you’re French or Chinese maybe you would have really enjoyed a frog in your salad. Most of the world would find it pretty rank though.

Pret A Manger offered the following statement on the incident: ‘At Pret A Manger, we take issues like this very seriously. Our lettuce is sourced from farms that do not use any pesticides on its produce, therefore organic matter does very rarely manage to pass through our production process. We are currently looking into this issue to make every effort that this does not happen again’. Which basically means nothing because it was just a blip, although someone might get fired for it.

Morale of the story – if you’re picking up a pre-made salad from anywhere, make sure you examine it carefully before purchase because you’re never gonna be sure what you might find in there.
