Conor McGregor might not be as relevant as he once was after a succession of tough losses in the MMA world, but the guy certainly knows how to tap into current events and get people talking about him – and he’s done it again by claiming that he’s in talks to buy Chelsea FC off Roman Abramovich.

Abramovich is clearly spooked by all the sanctions that are being levelled at Russia following Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine and is looking to cash in and get the hell out of dodge with his money before it’s seized off him by the government. That means he’s putting Chelsea on the market and people are looking to buy the football team and apparently one of those is Conor McGregor.

Here’s what he put on his Twitter account:

Yeah not really sure I’m buying this and it’s probably just Conor messing around again like he always does. First of all he definitely doesn’t have 3 billion himself so it would rely on a lot of other people being interested in some kind of consortium and second of all it’s gonna take more than him whatsapping someone saying he wants to buy Chelsea for anything to actually happen.

On the other hand, Conor has always expressed interest in owning Manchester United at some point in the future, so it’s not that outrageous to think that he might have had talks with the relevant people about moving forward with that in the past so he’s ready to go when a huge football club like Chelsea comes on the market. Bit of a fair-weather fan though hey?

Anyway, I can’t really see this happening but it would be pretty funny if it did. Can you imagine McGregor cutting promos all the time as the owner of Chelsea and ragging on other players and managers? Would be another level of stupidity but I would absolutely love it. Watch this space.
