Another day, another controversial decision involving the transgender community and the world of sport.

We’re over in Vermont for this one where the Mid Vermont Christian School girls team was scheduled to play against Long Trail School in an out of state basketball tournament, but chose to forfeit the game instead due to the inclusion of a transgender player on Long Trial’s roster. Here’s what MVCS school head Vicky Fogg had to say about their decision:

We withdrew from the tournament because we believe playing against an opponent with a biological male jeopardizes the fairness of the game and the safety of our players.

Allowing biological males to participate in women’s sports sets a bad precedent for the future of women’s sports in general.

Well she definitely does have a point there but I never really know where to come down on these issues. Yeah, I want transgender people to be accepted and have a good time, but I don’t think anyone can really deny that they’re going to probably have somewhat of an advantage when it comes to sport and it might even be unsafe in some respects like Fogg said. Really don’t know how to resolve that problem.

Interestingly, MVCS’s decision goes against state law in Vermont, which cites that ‘transgender and gender nonconforming students are to be provided the same opportunities to participate in physical education as are all other students’. Not sure if this incident is going to lead to a big debate or lawsuit, but I’m fairly sure even if it did nothing concerning it would ever get resolved because that’s just how it goes with transgender issues at the moment and could possibly continue to do so for the rest of time. No idea how to solve them.

For more of the same, check out this transgender teacher who wears giant prosthetic breasts to class. I gotta admit that’s a bit problematic.
