The driver of a double decker bus in Eccles, Manchester has been arrested after crashing into a bridge and seriously injuring 3 passengers, with the roof of the bus getting completely torn off.

A 19-year-old woman and two men, one in his 20s and another in his 40s, remain in hospital, and another 17 were treated at the scene for injuries:

Absolutely astonishing. How does that even happen? The low bridge signs are incredibly prominent in the area, and all bus drivers are told that you only go under this bridge in a single. Complete negligence from the driver who could have accidentally killed a whole bunch of people due to his stupidity.

On Google Maps you can even see there’s a massive metal archway with long, dangling chains to warn drivers that they’re about to tw@t their vehicle into a low bridge. There’s just no way the bus driver could have missed it.

The driver, a man in his 50s, has since been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving and has been bailed pending further investigations. It seems the bus had come off its expected route, hence why it was going down this road, although there’s no way to explain how the driver did not realise that the bus was too large to pass safely under the bridge. Maybe he wanted to give his passenger the sunroof experience?

One p45 coming up, in any case. Speedy recovery to the victims!
