Crazy plot twist in the case of the British man who allegedly tried to drown his daughter-in-law in a swimming pool near Disney World: he was apparently in a secret relationship with her. His own son’s wife!
Lighting engineer Mark Gibbon, 62, was staying with family at the Solterra Resort in Florida when an argument reportedly broke out over a will.
Gibbon, from Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, is then said to have pushed his daughter-in-law, Jasmine Wyld, 33, under the water, and repeatedly tried to drown her as she fought for her life.
His nine-year-old granddaughter tried to save her mum by jumping into the pool, but Gibbon pushed her away, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
The Daily Mail (who else?) have now revealed that Gibbon and Wyld have been in a relationship for the last two years after both of their marriages broke down. Jasmine shares two children with Gibbon’s son Alex, who is said to be estranged from his father, as well as his wife.
The father and son had actually worked together at the lighting company, having done work for Mick Jagger, Ed Sheeran and Kylie Minogue.
A family source told Mailonline: ‘Mark and Jasmine have been seeing each other for a few years, but they’ve never admitted it.
‘Alex and his dad don’t speak at all. There have been a number of issues within the family.
‘He feels an awful betrayal at how his dad has struck up a relationship with the mother of his two children.
‘Mark and Jasmine do an awful lot together and they go away on holiday with the children a couple of times every year.
‘She is always round at his house. She has a place of her own but she’s nearly always in Beaconsfield with Mark.
‘They went to Florida two years ago and have been to Budapest where she posted pictures of them together like a couple.
‘I don’t know for sure what happened on this holiday and why Mark has apparently tried to drown her.
‘But I have been told that Jasmine was unhappy that they have been in a relationship for a few years and she is not named in his will.’
Well, doesn’t sound like much of a ‘secret’ relationship does it? In fact it sounds like Alex, 34, was fully aware that his dad was hooking up with the mother of his kids, especially when you learn that two years ago he pleaded guilty to driving into his dad with an £80,000 Porsche. Two years ago? Around the same time his father and wife began sh@gging, then.
Alex also pleaded guilty to harassing Wyld, according to the Times.
Detectives gave Wyld’s rundown of the pool incident in their arrest report: ‘She advised that she could not breathe and believed that she was going to drown.

‘[The victim] advised that she had to fight Mark in order to get away from him and from under the water but he kept pushing her back under.’
Gibbon only stopped the attempted drowning after two witnesses told him they had called the police, and he was then taken into custody.
One witness told officers she ‘observed him push the victim under the water and hold her there multiple times’ and watched as he ‘scratched her on her chest’.
Apparently Gibbon has admitted to police he pushed his daughter-in-law under the water, but denies trying to drown her.
He was charged with attempted second-degree murder and battery.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said: ‘It’s great that Polk County draws visitors from all across the world, but we expect vacationers to behave while they visit with us, just as we expect our lifelong residents to do the same.
‘Because Mr Gibbon couldn’t control his anger, he may find himself spending a lot more time in Florida than he had anticipated.’
Has to suck for Alex even more now that the whole world knows that his dad has been sleeping with the mother of his kids, although he probably takes some comfort in the fact that they’ve had this disastrous falling out.
You have to feel most sorry for the kids though; watching their granddad try to kill their mum (allegedly), having to deal with the future humiliation of learning the details of the whole saga, and now almost certainly having their granddad removed from their lives. Think of all the Christmas/birthday present they’ll miss out on? Tragic stuff.
