Wow, what a scrap! I think we need more of this – Boris Vs Starmer, Trump Vs Biden, Putin Vs Navalny. I mean who cares about political debates when you can just watch two politicians beat each other up for 3 rounds in an MMA fight?

Hilariously, this whole thing was set up after 45-year-old Erineu Alvas Da Silva, a former councilor of Borba, Brazil, kept calling 39-year-old Simao Peixoto, mayor of Borba, a “scoundrel” online. Which I think we can all agree is fighting talk. In fact wouldn’t this be a great way to settle every dispute online? Two people mad at each other on the internet? Let them fight it out MMA-style and declare an official victor.

Also love this explanation of why the mayor initially didn’t want to fight, but ultimately agreed (via TMZ):

Peixoto ended up winning the fight — which was streamed by his staff — by decision, according to the Daily Mail … despite eating a flurry of heavy leg kicks which clearly hurt the mayor in the first round.

Before the fight, the mayor said this while agreeing to lace up the gloves.

“I’m not a street fighter … I’m the mayor of the municipality of Borba.”

Peixoto continued … “But if he really wants to fight … we’re ready to fight … I’ve always been a winner.”

Great stuff – ‘I don’t want to fight but I’ve always been a winner so I will’. Backed it up by clinching the W too. That’s a mayor you can get behind!
