‘Blackadder’ is one of the most loved British sitcoms of all time and so obviously everyone is going to be excited about the possibility of an extra adventure from all the characters, even if it looks as if Blackadder himself won’t be included in the fun.

Series creator Richard Curtis revealed the news when he was talking on BBC Radio 2’s Breakfast show with Gary Davies. When asked by the host if he had any plans for Red Nose Day, Curtis said the following:

God, I’m really nervous about saying this but…

I think for the first time in 20 years, Baldrick is going to be giving some kind of performance.

We’re just conspiring about it now, so I think there is going to be a marvellous, turnip-based thing with Tony Robinson now back in action, so I’m kind of excited about that.

No, Rowan won’t be appearing as he’s far too serious to do any of that.

Curtis then proceeded to laugh that comment off, so it’s not entirely sure if he was being serious himself about it, but given how much of a coup getting Rowan Atkinson involved would be I doubt they would be keeping it a secret at this point. Stephen Fry showed up on Comic Relief in 2020  as Lord Melchett so the characters have got previous of appearing on their own, so I wouldn’t be too surprised if that’s what this is.

Is a two minute Tony Robinson ‘Blackadder’ skit going to really be that funny in 2023 though? I would venture not, but then if you’re the kind of person who tunes into Comic Relief then chances are you might enjoy it. I’ll catch it on socials later on if it’s worth it.

For more of the same, check out Rowan Atkinson saying that cancel culture is like a medieval mob looking for someone to burn. Guess he’s definitely out then.
