Back To The Future Writer Reveals Biff Tannen Was Based On Donald Trump

Of course he was.

Anybody who’s seen Back To The Future will see the similarities between Biff Tannen and Donald Trump as they’re both obnoxious bullies with a penchant for picking on the little guy.

With recent reality now mirroring Back To The Future 2 – Marty travels to the future where Biff is a billionaire businessman with an influence in politics – the parallels are even more obvious unfortunately. However, the writer of Back To The Future Bob Gale has revealed that he actually based the character of Biff on Donald Trump all those years ago:

We thought about it when we made the movie! Are you kidding?

You watch Part II again and there’s a scene where Marty confronts Biff in his office and there’s a huge portrait of Biff on the wall behind Biff, and there’s one moment where Biff kind of stands up and he takes exactly the same pose as the portrait? Yeah – that was based on Trump.

And when Biff encourages every citizen to call him ‘America’s greatest living folk hero,’ we were thinking about Trump too.

I suppose that isn’t really that surprising when you look at both of them and see how similar they are. I doubt Gale could have predicted that Trump would have surpassed even Biff Tannen and ended up in the White House though. Sometimes truth really is stranger than fiction, unfortunately. Go figure.
