I never actually saw ‘I Am Legend’, but by all accounts it’s thought of as one of Will Smith’s best films but (spoiler alert) the fact that he died at the end sort of made you assume that there wouldn’t be any sequel, at least a sequel starring Will Smith that is.

Well, you know what they say about people who assume – it makes an ass out of u and me – and we were all wrong to think that because iconic Hollywood producer/writer Akiva Goldsman has revealed that Warner are working on a sequel starring both Will Smith and Michael B. Jordan. Apparently the sequel will be based on an alternate ending of the first movie where Smith didn’t end up perishing.

Here’s what Goldsman had to say:

This [sequel] will start a few decades later than the first.

I’m obsessed with The Last of Us, where we see the world just post-apocalypse but also after a 20-30-year lapse.

You see how the earth reclaims the world, and there’s something beautiful in the question of, as man steps away from being the primary tenant, what happens?

That will be especially visual in New York.

I don’t know if they’ll climb up to the Empire State building, but the possibilities are endless.
