Amber Heard Admits To ‘Hitting’ Johnny Depp But ‘Not Punching Him’ In Audio Tape

So much is going on at the Amber Heard/Johnny Depp trial at the moment, but I think the main revelation to come out of yesterday’s testimonies was contained in an audio tape that Depp had secretly made during a period when Heard was being abusive towards him.

Depp played the tape in court where Heard seems fairly hysterical and admits to hitting him, but actually clearly states that she didn’t punch him. Here’s the audio:

You didn’t get punched. You got hit.

I’m sorry I hit you like this, but I did not punch you.

I did not fucking deck you. I fucking was hitting you.

I don’t know what the motion of my actual hand was. But you’re fine.

I did not hurt you. I did not punch you. I was hitting you.

I’m not sitting here bitching about it, am I? You are.

That’s the difference between me and you. You’re a fucking baby.

Well that is a bit of a smoking gun isn’t it, but I’m not really sure if it actually changes anything? I think it was fairly clear from the first trial that both Depp and Heard were pretty awful to each other during the course of their relationship and probably both attacked each other at some points, but I’m not sure if that makes it OK or untrue that Depp is a woman beater/domestic abuser.

I suppose there’s some argument that he might have been defending himself from Heard but from what she has said – and what the UK judge determined last summer – it sounds like he absolutely battered her a couple of times, and I think even if the guy has been pushed to breaking point there’s no excuse for those sort of actions. But again, who do we believe in this trial between two extremely toxic people? Stay tuned.

For more of the same, check out everything that’s happened in the trials so far. There’s a lot going on.
