Richard Keys Defends Leaving Wife Of 34 Years For Daughter’s Friend

Richard Keys is famous for knowing nothing about football and being sacked by Sky Sports in 2011 for making derogatory comments about female referees with his equally clueless buddy Andy Gray. Both of them then went off to Qatar to ruin football coverage for beIN sports as well.

Keys is also famous for helping his wife battle cancer by cheating on her with their daughter’s 28-year-old best friend. He then ditched his wife of 34 years and married this woman, named Lucie Rose (below), in 2023 – he aged 66 & she 35.

Keys has now spoken to the Telegraph to insist he did not leave his wife while she had cancer and that he ‘never expected’ his 34-year marriage to end until he was ‘bowled over’ by his current partner.

He says: ‘I’ve never sat with anybody and talked about this, but I didn’t leave Julia dying of cancer, or suffering with cancer.

‘Sadly, she had cancer in 2008 and ’09, and we ran into a genius surgeon who removed it. During that period, we travelled 30 days straight to find the best specialists at the best hospitals, the best anaesthetists.’

Oh his relationship with Lucie, who is 31 years younger than him: ‘I never expected my marriage would end after 34 years, but Lucie bowled into my life and, wow, what a force of nature. And the rest is history.

‘What’s damaging is that people presume I ran away with my daughter’s best mate, locked her in a room, and gave her no choice about whether she wanted to be with me or not.

‘All of which is nonsense. Lucie’s one of the most powerful, strong-minded individuals you’ll come across. She’s deeply passionate about women’s rights. People see me as an easy target, but the narrative is not fair on her. It’s totally wrong.’

For what it’s worth, his ex-wife Julia wrote an infidelity survival guide following their divorce and claimed Keys’s behaviour ‘didn’t just devastate my world, but the world of our children, too.’ She also claims she did have thyroid cancer when Keys began cheating on her.

Pretty repulsive stuff really. I mean, I don’t begrudge a 66-year-old man hooking up with a 35-year-old woman – more power to you! But cheating on your sick wife with your daughter’s friend, and then abandoning your family to run off with her? A bit sh1t really.

In the end, this interview was a bit of an own goal. What does Richard Keys think? That fans are going to stop bringing this up in response to his stupid football opinions? Not going to happen, buddy!
