I don’t want to believe this is real, but according to The New Yorker, it is. A ‘professional baby namer’ charges up to $1,500 to pick the perfect name for your child, and parents are actually stumping up the cash.

Taylor A Humphrey, 33, has helped name 100+ babies, raking in more than $150,000. Apparently some couples have coughed up $10,000 for her services because she has such an incredible knack for naming babies.

Depending on how much you pay, Humphrey’s services “range from a phone call and a bespoke name list to a genealogical investigation” with the aim of digging up old family names. Which I think anyone with a brain could do themselves, but hey ho.

She also chose the baby name Parks for a couple who had their first kiss in a town called Parker. What can you say really? It’s the ultimate scam. This lady has convinced parents to pay her anywhere from $1,500 to $10,000 and you can’t even be mad about it because she’s delivering the service exactly as advertised. Which I guess means it isn’t a scam, but boy it feels like it should be. Well played, Taylor A Humphrey. Well played indeed.
