The critically acclaimed photographer Fan Ho spent the 50s and 60s taking gritty street photographs of his new home Hong Kong, where he had moved from Shanghai in 1949. His photographs are going to be published in a new book imaginatively entitled ‘Fan Ho: A Hong Kong Memoir’ but you can see some of the best pictures below, as they illustrate a Hong Kong that few of us have ever seen or imagined before.

If you enjoyed these, check out our pictures from inside the Triad controlled walled Kowloon City or the Japanese Yakuza.
