Stephen Hawking is well renowned as one of the world’s greatest astrophysicists, but even that doesn’t stop him from being afraid of aliens.

In a new short documentary about him called ‘Stephen Hawking’s Favourite Places’, he’s revealed that he’s fearful for the existence of aliens as he reckons they’re most likely to be a gang of rapacious marauders that could easily destroy the Earth:
One day, we might receive a signal from a planet like this. But we should be wary of answering back. Meeting an advanced civilization could be like Native Americans encountering Columbus. That didn’t turn out so well.
Well, no it didn’t really did it – it ended up with the mass colonisation of their land and their enslavement. I think that’s what Hawking is saying is likely to happen to us if we ever encounter alien life.
Let’s hope that it doesn’t when we do finally learn of the existence of extraterrestrials. That’s if we haven’t already – this former CIA agent seems convinced that we have and makes a fairly valid argument. The truth is out there.
