Given the fact that pretty much anyone with a big enough bank balance and a big enough mouth can become President Of The United States these days – allow actual political experience – the idea that The Rock might actually run for President has been floating around the internet for a couple of years now.

And it turns out that the big man himself has caught wind of it and is seriously considering making a go of it the next time the ticket comes around. Here’s what a recent feature in GQ said about it:

Last June, when The Washington Post published an op-ed suggesting he could be a viable candidate, Johnson posted a screen grab and gave the idea a boost. On Instagram, he called the Post piece “interesting” and “fun to read,” adding that “the most important thing right now is strong honest leadership from our current and future leaders of this country.

Since then, Johnson tells me, he’s given the question more thought. “A year ago,” he says, “it started coming up more and more. There was a real sense of earnestness, which made me go home and think, ‘Let me really rethink my answer and make sure I am giving an answer that is truthful and also respectful.’ I didn’t want to be flippant—‘We’ll have three days off for a weekend! No taxes!’”

So, after all that consideration, Johnson doesn’t hesitate when I ask him whether he honestly might one day give up his life as the highest-paid movie star on earth—which is unquestionably easier, more fun, and more lucrative than being president of the United States—in order to run for office. “I think that it’s a real possibility,” he says solemnly.

The Rock

Well there you have it. Ain’t nobody thinking about being President that isn’t going to end up giving it a go – look at Donald Trump FFS.

Of course, there is the slight problem of The Rock being a Republican to contend with, but I imagine if he were to run for office he would do so in much the way that Arnold Schwarzenegger did when he ran for governor of California, focussing on very centrist policies to ensure his universal popularity wasn’t damaged and encouraged people to vote for him. Considering The Rock’s approval rating and the fact that all it really seems to take to become President Of The United States is a couple of good promos that aren’t based in reality coupled with no political experience at all, it seems like we could be looking at the next leader of the free world. How many of you thought that when he was having ladder matches with HHH back in 1998?
