Massive change of tune for rapper Wyless Man AKA Ashley Warren, whose XL Bully dogs killed his mother-in-law in Jaywick, Essex, on the weekend.
Ashley, 39, has previously said “don’t tell me what to do with my f****** dogs” and boasted about breeding the animals, which he sold for £500-a-puppy on Facebook. That was before the attack that saw two of his dogs – named Beauty and Bear – maul Esther Martin, 68, to death.
Wyless Man was released on bail yesterday after being arrested on suspicion of dangerous dog offences. He’s now opened up about how he used to oppose the new laws banning the ownership of XL Bullies without proper documentation, and how he’s done a complete 180 on that position now.
He said: “Now I couldn’t support them enough.”
Warren said his dogs ‘loved’ being pet by Ms Martin before they turned and killed her: “Never in a million years did I see [the dogs] as a risk. If my dogs did that to her, when I had never seen anything but love from them, then that breed just has a killer switch. I honestly thought the ban was a stupid government plan to wipe out a breed which I had never seen anything but softness and love from. Now I think they need to be wiped out. Esther meant everything to my son and everything to me. I’m sorry for everyone’s loss, from the bottom of my heart.”
Well, if there’s one thing that will change your perspective on the XL Bully ban, it’s having them maul your mother-in-law to death in your own home. I don’t doubt that this guy feels pure pain and remorse at the fact this happened, but I’ve got the feeling he wasn’t exactly the ideal candidate to socialise XL Bully dogs in the first place. How many more Wyless Men are there out there who are breeding these dogs and selling them on to likeminded individuals who have no business owning dangerous dogs?
RIP Esther Martin and anyone else who has been a victim of dangerous, poorly-socialised pets. A lot of people are asking about Esther Martin’s daughter/Ashley Warren’s girlfriend; apparently she passed away two years ago. If there’s one tiny silver lining to that news, it’s that she wasn’t around for this latest tragedy to hit their family.
