There appears to be a ‘terrifying trend’ of women being ‘body slammed’ across London, and it’s come to light thanks to a TikTok video of this 20-year-girl who was assaulted by a man while walking on Mile End Canal.
From the sounds of it, Ayla Mellek was shoulder-tackled to the ground, rather than being ‘body slammed’ in the WWE sense, but it’s still obviously completely out of order. Here’s her story:
@aylamellek Happened at Mile End Canal, please watch out… #eastlondon #assulted #attacked #madman #fyp #crime #canal #mental ♬ original sound – Ayla x
The 20-year-old told Metro:
‘After he collided with me, I heard a grunt of satisfaction come from him.
‘Bear in mind, he is huge and around 6ft4 tall. As he came towards me, I turned my body to make a gap for him to run through, but instead he ran at me at full speed and completely bodied me.
‘It felt like he was trying to knock me into the canal, but the way by body was turned it meant I hit the ground instead.’
Ayla actually thought it was an accident until a couple approached her afterwards and revealed the attacker had knocked someone else into the canal just hours before hitting her.
‘They saw I was crying and heard what had happened and came and told me he had actually pushed someone into the water,’ Ayla said.
‘That’s when I knew it wasn’t an accident.’
The comments are full of other women telling their own stories of being shoulder-tackled/body-slammed in London:
Interestingly, this sort of thing is already a trend over in Japan, where men are participating in something called ‘butsukan’ or ‘Butsukari otoko’, which translates to ‘bumping man’.
It basically involves men/incels running into women at train stations and in the streets, and purposely barging them off balance or to the ground. The idea is that the men get to feel powerful while also avenging their incel-dom by causing pain and distress to women.
I’m not sure there’s enough evidence yet to suggest it’s a full-on trend in London, but it’s certainly alarming that so many women have a similar story to the one told in that TikTok. Maybe some of the ‘body slams’ were accidental, but at least some of them would have definitely been deliberate. Something to keep an eye on, for sure. Heads on a swivel, ladies!
