The BBC has a fresh scandal on their hands after a top female presenter for the company (reportedly in the top 50 earners) was forced to apologise to executives for flashing a d**k pic (not her own) to a junior staff member.
As per The Sun, the unnamed TV star shared the unsolicited image with a ‘completely horrified’ junior staff member from her phone after asking about their sexual preferences.
It was ‘meant to be jokey, locker-room type banter’, but reportedly led the junior staffer to tears.
A source at the BBC told the publication: ‘It’s a ticking time bomb.
‘As soon as the name of this woman – and details of her bad behaviour – are unleashed, it will derail entire departments and mark the first female to be formally swept up into the BBC’s wrongdoing roll call.’
‘She felt like it was an intentionally shocking move to intimidate, veiled as a joke. It was way too much. The woman had to apologise to the girl…. The release of her name would be seismic.’
Wow, couldn’t make it sound more dramatic if they tried. Although in fairness, it does sound like the culprit is a household name and so it would be a pretty huge deal. Naga Munchetty? Claudia Winkleman? Clare Balding? It could be anyone!
In a statement to Metro, the BBC said: ‘While we do not comment on individual cases, we take all complaints about conduct at work extremely seriously.’
So just from recent history at the BBC, we’ve had: Gregg Wallace fired for sexual misconduct, Huw Edwards making indecent images of children, Strictly’s Giovanni Pernice and Graziano Di Prima both under fire for behavioural allegations, The Repair Shop presenter Jay Blades being charged with two counts of rape, and probably a few more we’re forgetting.
I’m sure the name of this presenter will be public knowledge soon enough, so we’ll have to stay tuned for the fallout. Maybe they can roll with the old Gregg Wallace ‘autism’ excuse? Doesn’t seem to have worked out too well for Gregg, but could be worth a shot.
Either way, they really need to sort out whatever is going on at the BBC. It seems like every other week, there’s a fresh report of someone acting inappropriately. Oh well, at least it’s actually being reported on these days. To some degree, anyway.
Almost forgot about John Torode – he was recently sacked for ‘using the N-word twice while singing along to a Kanye West song’. Oh the humanity!
