Ever since it was first released, people have been yearning for a sequel to Top Gun and in recent times, rumours that it might actually be happening have reached peak levels.
And it looks like everyone wishing for the next instalment of Maverick’s story is finally going to be satisfied, as Tom Cruise himself announced today that the sequel was happening and he’ll be filming it within the next year. Speaking to Sunrise in Australia on The Mummy’s press tour, Cruise was asked point blank whether or not it was happening and decided to give them the exclusive about what was going down with it:

It is definitely happening.
It’s true. It’s true. I’m going to start filming it probably in the next year. I know. It’s happening. It is definitely happening … you’re the first people that I’ve said this to.
Well there you have it – I’m sure a lot of people are going to be as excited about this as that presenter. To be honest, I’m pretty sure Tom Cruise only dropped that bombshell so he can bang her and it almost definitely worked. I’m not even sure if he needed to though, I mean it’s Tom Cruise right?
Anyway that shouldn’t distract us from the fact that Maverick is finally going to fly again – maybe he’ll drop the Salt Bae move after smashing ISIS like this real life fighter pilot? We can but hope.
