I didn’t even know the Cannes Film Festival was going on at the moment – or had been going on – but Julia Ducournau’s ‘Titane’ just won the Palm D’Or and is being called the most shocking film of 2021.

To be fair, it does sound completely and utterly wild. The official synopsis you can read below underneath the trailer, but the review summary is way more interesting as it explains that the movie revolves around Alexia who gets hit by a car when she’s younger and has a titanium plate implanted in her head that leads to her being sexually attracted to automobiles. Apparently at one point in the movie she has sex with a car and then gives birth to a human/car hybrid, so you know it sounds like this is going to be a particularly crazy movie.

Check out the trailer below:

Following a series of unexplained crimes, a father is reunited with the son who has been missing for 10 years.

Titane: A metal highly resistant to heat and corrosion, with high tensile strength alloys.

Yeah I’m not really sure how that relates to what I wrote earlier or the trailer but the movie looks like it’s going to be seriously entertaining. There’s no UK release date yet but given the serious amount of buzz it seems to be getting at the moment it probably won’t be too long until that’s confirmed. Can’t wait.

For more of the same, check out the reactions to Ducournau’s last movie ‘Raw’. They weren’t pretty, let’s put it that way.
