In what may actually be the least shocking revelation of all time, Buzzfeed have revealed that Sydney Sweeney has been registered as a Republican in Florida since 2024.
In fact, Sweeney registered as a Republican the day after Donald Trump’s criminal conviction, and once threw her mum a MAGA-themed birthday party, so it’s pretty much been an open secret for a while now.
Even still, the usual suspects are in meltdown over this, particularly because it follows the controversy around her recent advert for American Eagle denim jeans, which critics have accused of being ‘master race propaganda.’
In the advert, the camera zooms in on Sweeney’s breasts and bum, and ends with the slogan: “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans.” The pun on genes/jeans is what seems to have mostly riled people up, claiming it promotes eugenics and white supremacy.
And so, the timing of this revelation by Buzzfeed is pretty interesting, and has Sydney Sweeney trending all over social media again.
Sweeney, 27, has kept schtum on her political views in public, so it must be fairly annoying to have Buzzfeed make her political affiliation official when she’s gone out of her way to not comment on this sort of thing.
Either way, I don’t think any rational-minded person really cares and it’s really just being used to stir up more culture war nonsense on social media. What do they think they’re going to do, cancel Sydney Sweeney? She’s the #1 Hollywood It girl of the moment. She can do no wrong!
She’s also probably smart enough to never comment on this and just carry on doing what she’s doing without even acknowledging that it’s a thing.
After all, it’s only a matter of time before something else comes along to make people mad at Sydney Sweeney. Remember the time she was called a “threat to body positivity” because she looked awesome in a micromini skirt? SMDH.
