A 62-year-old hunter has been killed in a revenge attack by a bear he mortally wounded in Russia, reports the Metro.

Graphic photos show the discovery of the man’s body, in the Tulun district of Irkutsk region, Siberia, with the bear’s carcass found 54 yards away.

The hunter is believed to have shot and wounded the bear from a platform in a tree. Believing the brown bear was dead, the man descended from the tree and approached the body, only to be ferociously attacked by the beast in its final act.

It was gnarly death indeed; the man’s skull was found completely crushed and he had claw and fang wounds all over his head.

Now this is what real hunting should be all about, right? Man Vs Bear where in this case it came down to a Leo DiCaprio in Revenant scenario, only in reverse. The bear pulling out the old ‘play dead’ trick which is what they usually advise humans to do in a situation like this, except the bear clung onto life just long enough to muster a final bit of strength and literally crush the hunter’s skull into oblivion, before trotting off and dying 50 yards away. Just a fantastic and beautiful revenge story in the final moments of its life.

We can all mourn these two and feel sorry for their families and friends, and at the end of the day the rest of us can only dream of a death as dramatic as this one. Who knows, maybe these two are in the afterlife right now walking hand in hand, recounting their grisly ends and sharing stories of their lives from the woods. RIP – to both the hunted and hunter.
