Another classic Rishi Sunak gaffe today as the Prime Minister cracked a transgender joke at PMQs… with the mother of murdered trans schoolgirl Brianna Ghey sat in the gallery.
Sunak accused Keir Starmer of u-turning on his definition of a woman, saying it was “a bit rich” to hear about promises from someone who’s broken every single promise he was elected on”. He mentioned “pensions, planning, peerages”, before adding that that the Labour leader had u-turned on “defining a woman, although, in fairness, that was only 99 per cent of a u-turn.” Lol?
Rishi Sunak made a “joke”about Keir Starmer “defining a woman”…with Brianna Ghey’s mother Esther watching #pmqs from the gallery.
“Of all the days…” says Starmer

Starmer replied: “Of all the weeks to say that, when Brianna’s mother is in this chamber. Shame.” Which you’d think would have at least mortified Rishi Sunak a little bit as I’m guessing he had no idea or just completely forgot that Brianna Ghey’s mum, Esther Ghey, was in attendance. Or maybe he was fully aware and just decided to say it anyway? Wouldn’t shock me, to be honest.
I suppose he’s lucky the Speaker didn’t also call him out on it, because that would have been really embarrassing and put him on the spot big time. Apparently Labour MP Liz Twist requested that Rishi Sunak apologise, but he hasn’t taken the opportunity to do so yet. Even by his own standards, he could at least accept the comments were poorly-timed. I mean, it’s a pretty tame joke on the overall spectrum of trans jokes, but it must’ve been brutal for Brianna Ghey’s mum to listen to that in real time. You don’t have to follow the script to the letter every time, Rishi.
